Types of Devices
Fastchooser is dedicated to different kinds of computers: mobile computers like smartphones, tablets or laptops, notebooks, ultrabooks, and desktop computers, all-in-one versions, or PC parts for building a computer and computer peripherals.
Note that we donât have the specification database for feature phones â the previous-generation phones only for making calls and typing messages.
On Fastchooser, you will find the best deals for new smartphones, the latest tablets, and flagship laptops at affordable prices.
Hardware Specs
For easier specs comparison, we provide only the most important ones. But every item has an additional description with pictures.
Specifications vary depending on the type of the device, especially among computer components, while other categories have much in common. Smartphones and tablets have the same types of characteristics since they are very alike.
Display Characteristics
A display is measured in inches and has a certain resolution characterized by pixel density. The higher the resolution, the more details you have on the screen. But high resolution gives more pressure to the deviceâs GPU and drains the battery faster.
That is why the resolution, which is higher than Full HD, usually is found in smartphones and tablets. For power-hungry laptops, the Full HD screens are typical, as they struggle for increasing the battery life.
The most common types of displays are LCD, OLED, and AMOLED screens. And they all have pros and cons. While LCD screens are less expensive, they are also less energy-efficient.
However, since only completely black pixels on OLED or AMOLED screens save the battery, lighter-colored images make a phone consume even more energy. OLEDs are also thinner, have a faster refresh rate and their picture quality is better, more saturated than that of the LCD screens.
AMOLED is just a better version of OLED, consuming less energy, and with higher flexibility. On the other hand, OLEDs and AMOLEDs are less visible in direct sunlight. Super AMOLEDs are much improved, though. Although OLEDs and AMOLEDs provide great colors, their major drawback is diode degradation and screen burn-in. But you can prolong their lifespan by using a low level of brightness. Just make sure that itâs not too low and harmful for your eyes.
Laptops and desktops usually come with LCD screens, while OLEDs and AMOLEDs are mostly used in smartphones and tablets.
A monitor, however, doesn't contain a graphics card. So if you want to work with graphics, 3D-rendering, make sure your device is equipped with a powerful GPU. Read more about video cards.
Battery Lifespan
Battery capacity is crucial for every mobile computer. The bigger the battery, the longer the battery life. Right? Yes, but not always. Battery life also depends on other factors, such as the deviceâs hardware and software, OS in particular, and how well the system is optimized.
Then, there is also you and the way you use and charge your device. Almost all portable electronics today come with lithium-ion batteries. Although they are better than the previous-generation batteries, Li-ion batteries still self-discharge and degrade over time. They tend to lose capacity after 1000 cycles of charging and discharging. But how to prolong the battery life?
The Li-ion battery degradation depends on the temperature of storing and using the device. The most optimal temperature is 15-20 °C. So to prolong the battery life of your device, keep it away from extreme temperatures and use only certified good-quality chargers. Fast charging saves time, but it generates more heat than normal charging and speeds up battery aging. Consider using it only when itâs really necessary. And try not to use your device too intensely during charging, as it gets hotter.
If you want the battery to stay as young as possible, you should know that Li-ion batteries donât like to be fully charged. Avoid charging the device over 80%. And donât let the battery drop to 0%, unless you need to calibrate a malfunctioning battery. Unlike NiMH batteries that had to be charged from 0% to 100%, Li-ion batteries should be kept between 20% and 80% to extend their lifespan. For more details, read about how to increase Li-ion battery lifespan on batteryuniversity.com.
Smartphone and tablet battery life is on average longer than laptop battery life since laptops are more massive, energy-consuming, and have less place for a battery.
Nowadays, manufacturers tend to produce smartphones with non-removable batteries. However, you can find phones with removable batteries among some Chinese makers who even provide one or two extra batteries in a package.
Processor Features
Every device has a CPU (Central Processing Unit) like every animal has a brain. Processors are divided into two major groups: mobile and desktop, mobile CPUs being less powerful but more energy-efficient since they are designed for laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
Desktop computers donât have batteries. Hence, their processors provide the best performance, have a higher CPU frequency (clock speed), and a bigger cache. But all devices today are equipped with multi-core processors, so several tasks can be processed simultaneously.
The CPU frequency, measured in GHz, shows how many instructions the CPU chip can execute per second. 2 GHz â 2 billion instructions. Modern chips have two kinds of clock speed: base and boost â the highest speed the chip can reach when it is necessary. Note that in the smartphone and tablet specs, we show the maximum speed, while in laptop, desktop, and CPU specs â the base and boost clock. Laptop performance, in general, is better than smartphone performance.
The CPU cache is a small amount of memory in the chip for faster access to frequently used data. The bigger the cache, the better the performance.

Choosing a computer processor, make sure it is supported by the motherboard of your PC. For more details, read about choosing a motherboard.
How Much Internal Memory is Enough?
It depends on you and the device you choose. For smartphones and tablets today, the minimum storage capacity is 64 GB with 4 GB of RAM. For some people, even 32 GB of storage may be enough if they donât shoot tons of videos, play too many games or download and store movies on the phone.
But just in case, itâs good to have expandable storage. Note that not all smartphones and tablets support MicroSD cards. For laptops and desktops, you should have at least 256 GB of storage with 8 GB of RAM.
RAM (Random-Access Memory) is the type of internal memory for temporal keeping and immediate extraction of the data you use while the computer is on. The bigger the RAM, the more information you can see on the screen without slowing down the computer.
As storage, now we mostly have SSDs (Solid-State Drives) which are quieter and faster compared to the old-generation HDDs (Hard Disc Drives). They are also sold separately for laptops and desktops.
Cameras
All portable devices come with cameras. And the more compact the device is, the better cameras it has. Smartphones are the most comfortable gadgets for taking photos because of their size. Hence, they are equipped with the best cameras, compared to tablets, and especially laptops, which mostly donât even have rear cameras, while their front cameras are of minimal quality enough for video chats.
Among camera specs, we show only megapixels. Other features like pixel size or optical zoom you may find in the description of devices.
Which Operating System is Better?
Every operating system has its pros and cons. Which one is better for you depends on your preferences and your budget? Android, for example, is more affordable and the most widespread smartphone and tablet OS. But if you have extra money and want a more user-friendly and secure OS, you may consider buying an Apple device. Read more about iPhone vs Android.
Windows is the most universal operating system with the biggest amount of software used on desktops, laptops, and tablets. It used to be on smartphones too, but Android squeezed it out of this sector.
We also wait for Huaweiâs upcoming Harmony OS, which is supposed to be faster than present operating systems and work on various devices. However, it will hardly be Microsoftâs rival.
